The operations of labor affairs were under the administrative supervision of Department of Social Welfare of Taipei City Government. In view of rapid economic development, social structural change and increased labor force participation rate, it is necessary to set up a dedicated unit to improve services for massive labor force and to enhance efficiency, thus the Department of Labor of Taipei City Government was officially founded in January of 1988.
